2014 Honda Odyssey Named Among Best Tailgating Vehicles

The new NFL football season got underway a few weeks ago, and since many of our customers are San Diego Chargers fans, we figured that we were all in for another long and rocky season of the Phillip Rivers show. But things haven’t been as dire this season as they could have been, which means people around here are legitimately getting excited about football again. We here at Pacific Honda are very happy to see that, especially because Bold Ride recently named the 2014 Honda Odyssey among its “8 Perfect Rides for Football Tailgating.”

Honda's Project Drive-In Helps Save Four Additional Theaters, Nine in Total

  • Theaters in Florida, Missouri, South Carolina and Tennessee win digital projector
  • End of 35mm film distribution puts many drive-in theaters without new digital projectors in jeopardy of closure
  • Public encouraged to continue supporting the cause at www.projectdrivein.com to keep theaters and car culture alive in America
  • New video released today showcases emotional reactions of winners
Project Drive-In, Honda's national effort to help save drive-ins facing closure due to the end of 35mm film distribution, is awarding four additional drive-in theaters (in alphabetical order)—Monetta Drive-In (Monetta, S.C.), Ocala Drive-In (Ocala, Fla.), Starlite Drive-In (Cadet, Mo.) and Stateline Drive-In (Elizabethton, Tenn.)—a new digital projector along with the first five theater winners—99W Drive-In (Newberg, Ore.), Cherry Bowl Drive-In (Honor, Mich.), Graham Drive-In (Graham, Texas), McHenry Outdoor Theater (McHenry, Ill.) and Saco Drive-In (Saco, Maine)—announced last week. More than 2.6 million votes at www.projectdrivein.com determined the total of nine winning theaters.
"It's not often that a company gets the opportunity to help preserve an American pastime. It has been an honor and a privilege to bring national and local attention to the fate of drive-ins and to meet the passionate owners of these small businesses," said Alicia Jones, manager of Honda & Acura social marketing at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "We hope that the #SaveTheDriveIn movement continues in the effort to help keep more drive-ins open for the next generation."
Beyond supplying digital projectors, Project Drive-In raised more than $43,000 at the Save the Drive-In Fund at Indiegogo (http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/project-drive-in-save-the-drive-in-fund). Those dollars helped to purchase one of the four projectors awarded today and this fundraising effort will continue through the end of the year in hopes of raising further money to support more digital conversions.
To tell the story of participating drive-ins, a video debuts today revealing the emotional reactions and excitement of the drive-in winners and expresses the outpouring of support from nearby communities; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiKS6k6LOvw&feature=youtu.be.
In addition, a Honda-donated 2014 Odyssey Touring Elite® is available on the Project Drive-In fundraising Web page for $50,000. The donation will not only award the winning bidder with the brand new Odyssey minivan, but also help fund an additional digital projector and save another drive-in from closing.
Over the past seven weeks, Project Drive-In has elevated awareness of this historic part of American cinema and car culture. The effort has received more than 651million impressions in press coverage in addition to 62 million impressions on Twitter alone. There were more than 30,000 individual online mentions across blogs, forums, etc. The effort began with a poignant video, viewed more than 1.1 million times, designed to rally Americans to help drive-ins at risk of closing because of the costly switch to digital projection, estimated at $75,000+ per screen.
Visitors to the Project Drive-In website were encouraged to share information about the program with family and friends via social media, email or texts and pledge to see one movie at their local drive-in.
All nine winning theaters will host a celebration that includes a special screening of Sony Pictures Animation's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, in theaters everywhere on September 27.

2014 Honda Fit Debuts in Japan; U.S. Next

Our readers with children know that Christmas time can be very challenging for kiddos that have no idea about the concept of patience. They know toys are coming, and they’re excited about those toys, but waiting for their arrival is one of the most painful things they’ll do over the course of their year. And we, the wise adults, roll our eyes and think to ourselves, “You guys will get your Pokemon cards and Polly Pockets in due time. Just be patient.”

But that’s a hard thing for us to say when we adults also don’t like waiting for some things: the start of fantasy football season, the series finale of “Breaking Bad,” and the U.S. release of the 2014 Honda Fit, just to name a few.

2015 Honda Civic Type R to sire next-gen CR-Z?

Salt shakers at the ready, boys and girls. There's a rumor out of Australia claiming the next Honda CR-Z will be based on the forthcoming 276-horsepower, turbocharged Civic Type R. Apparently Honda's research and development bigwigs have been unnerved by the reception of the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ twins and are eager to return fire.

Now, don't get too excited - Honda isn't following the Volkswagen model of offering virtually unchanged mechanicals in a different bodyshell (Beetle Turbo and GTI, for example). Instead, the report says the future CR-Z will retain its hybrid powertrain, albeit with a serious kick in the pants. A prototype is said to already be zipping around Japan with a turbocharged, direct-injected, 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine and the current CR-Z's electric motor and battery pack. With a reported 221 horsepower mated up to a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission (say buh-bye to the CVT and six-speed manual) and the next-gen Civic platform underneath, the rumored CR-Z has all the makings of a hot hatch riot.

Of course, this all sounds wonderful. This is also the point where you should be enjoying that salt. We really like the idea of a properly hot CR-Z that can compete with John Cooper Works Mini models and the new Ford Fiesta ST, but the three-door hybrid has been such a slow seller for Honda in the US that it might not field a second generation here, no matter how improved it might be. Let us know what you think of an amped-up CR-Z in the comments. Is it a good idea, or is this one Honda model that's just too far gone?

2014 Honda Odyssey Leading Charge in New Advanced Safety Tech

One of the things that Lemon Grove Honda dealers are most proud of when it comes to the vehicles that they sell is the top-notch safety technology that has gone into each and every automobile. The 2014 Honda Odyssey, for example, was recently named an IIHS Top Safety Pick+, the first minivan to have ever earned the distinction, so clearly safety is a top priority for Honda engineers.

Fuel-Efficient V-6 PowerThe Pilot's advanced 24-valve all-aluminum V-6 engine offers numerous friction-reduction technologies, "intelligent" Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control® (i-VTEC®) and Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™). The VCM system allows the V-6 engine to operate in 6-cylinder mode for maximum power and in either 4-cylinder or 3-cylinder mode for increased efficiency. The Pilot's EPA fuel economy2 ratings give the 2014 Pilot 2WD the highest fuel economy rating of any eight-passenger SUV and the Pilot 4WD the highest fuel economy rating (highway) for any mid-size 4WD SUV. In addition, the Pilot meets the stringent ULEV-2 (Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle)6 emissions rating of the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
A standard 5-speed automatic transmission features Grade Logic Control to help maintain the most appropriate gear when climbing or descending steep grades, helping minimize gear "hunting." The available Variable Torque Management® (VTM-4®) system on Pilot 4WD models adds fully automatic 4-wheel-drive capability, and features a "lock mode" that can deliver the maximum-possible torque transfer to the rear wheels to aid extraction from extremely low traction or stuck conditions.
Functional Exterior StylingBold and expressive, practical and elegant, the 2014 Pilot presents its own unique blend of function and style. The Pilot's grille and front fascia feature a distinctive 3-bar horizontal design, while multi-reflector halogen headlights and integrated turn signals contribute to the premium look. Pilot LX models are equipped with 17-inch styled-steel wheels, while Pilot EX and above models have 5-spoke, 18-inch aluminum wheels. Touring models feature an exclusive 6-spoke alloy wheel design with a high-contrast machined surface.
Eighteen cubic-feet of cargo space behind the third row seats matches or exceeds the trunk space of a typical large sedan. For maximum cargo space, the second and third rows fold flat to provide 87.0 cubic-feet of total cargo space and sufficient width for carrying 4-foot-wide items such a sheets of plywood or drywall. The cargo area also has a hidden storage well that provides 2.8 cubic-feet of additional space. The tailgate (power operated on EX-L and Touring models) features a lift-up glass hatch for convenient access to the rearmost cargo area.
Comprehensive Interior FeaturesSophisticated design, high-quality materials, advanced electronic features, and low noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) provide a comfortable and enjoyable experience for passengers in all three rows. The roomy accommodations include 16 different seating configurations for the 60/40 split-folding second- and third-row seats.
All Pilot models come equipped with a high-resolution 8-inch intelligent Multi-Information Display (i-MID) with rearview camera display (multi-angle on EX-L Navi and Touring), iPod album artwork display, and user-loadable wallpaper function, plusBluetooth® HandsFreeLink®Bluetooth® Audio, USB connection and automatic climate controls. The Pilot EX and EX-L models include a 2GB CD Library (CD-L), while Pilot EX and above models also include a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat and tri-zone automatic climate control.
The available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™4 offers 60 GB of total system memory (including 15 GB allocated for user media) and voice recognition for three languages. Its hard drive can store thousands of minutes of music, which is accessible by simple voice commands using the Song By Voice™ feature. And the free FM Traffic feature provides continuous updates on traffic and incidents.
Responsive and Refined Chassis
The Pilot's rigid body structure and fully independent suspension –with MacPherson strut front and multi-link with trailing arm rear – provides the foundation for its  responsive, comfortable and stable ride and handling. The 67.7-inch front/67.5-inch rear track improves cornering capability while the 109.2-inch wheelbase facilitates a smooth ride; and a tight turning diameter of 37.9 feet aids maneuverability in tight parking situations.
Numerous advanced chassis features and components directly benefit fuel efficiency, including a variable-displacement power steering pump, low-rolling-resistance tires, and low-drag front ventilated and rear disc brakes. Finely tuned aerodynamics, aerodynamic front strakes, splash shields and inner fenders, and minimal frontal area also contribute to overall fuel efficiency.
Comprehensive SafetyUtilizing Honda's unique Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, the 2013 Pilot was rated as a "TOP SAFETY PICK by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The ACE body helps reduce the amount of crash energy reaching the passenger compartment in a frontal collision and can enhance frontal collision compatibility with vehicles of different sizes and ride heights.
Active safety features, including anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), are standard on all models. Passive safety features include 3-row side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor, driver's and front passenger's front and side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), and active front head restraints.
Developed and Manufactured in AmericaThe Pilot is produced by Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC, in Lincoln, Alabama7. The Pilot was designed, developed and engineered in the U.S. by Honda R&D Americas, Inc. at its R&D centers in Raymond, Ohio, and Torrance, California.
