Honda Debuts “Sonic Civic” at Comic Con

Here in San Diego, CA, we know that July marks the arrival of pop culture fans from all over the world for the largest Comic Con in existence. Every year the convention injects a tremendous amount of energy (and a tremendous number of celebrities) into our great city, which gives Honda a really nice opportunity to show off what the brand can do for an audience that’s more than thrilled to soak up all of the promotional stuff thrown their way at an event that is nothing but pure, unadulterated joy.

The best personification of this, at least in terms of Honda, was a custom-designed “Sonic Civic” paying tribute to one of the most classic video games of all time: “Sonic the Hedgehog.”

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the landmark game, SEGA teamed up with Honda to help also draw attention to the anticipated arrival of the not yet released 2017 Honda Civic. The vehicle itself features a stunning job with loads of references to the original video game, as well as custom wheels and tires that harken back to Sonic’s red shoes and the gold rings he collects while spinning through levels. Inside, there are custom seats featuring Katzkin blue leather, red stripes and embroidered “Sonic” logos in the headrests, and in the trunk is a huge audio-visual system with a pop-up 32-inch TV so the driver can pull over and play the game whenever they want to.

It would be hard for San Diego Honda fans not to love a vehicle like this, especially when they’re already so open to soaking up the pop culture swag at this year’s Comic Con. We know it’s not for everybody, but for those who love Honda vehicles and video games, this is about as cool as cars can get.
