Honda Debuts New Civic Coupe Ad


When done properly, advertising is a really incredible thing. We all know at this point that we’re being marketed to, so it has become a real challenge for businesses to come up with clever ads that draw us closer to products even though we know that’s what the advertisers are trying to do. Some get us through giggles, others by tugging on heartstrings, but the most recent spot from Honda touting the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe draws in potential customers near Kearny Mesa simply by being clever.


Frankly, it’s a really clever commercial. Titled “Square,” the camera shows a world in which everything has sharp edges. The people are literally blockheads, skateboards have “wheels” that look more like children’s building blocks, and even balloons are in the shapes of cubes. Today’s generation of kids might know that “square” once was a slang synonym for “lame” or “boring,” but that’s the idea here. The world can be a pretty boring, predictable place.

Until, that is, something like the new Civic Coupe finds its way into a square world. Sleek and smooth and modern and flat-out cool, the car definitely stands out in a landscape filled with pointed edges and straight lines.

“The bold styling and dynamic performance of the all-new Honda Civic Coupe have resent customer expectations for the compact car experience,” said Honda marketing executive Susie Rossick. “Our new campaign visually represents how the Civic Coupe is breaking the rules of conformity.”

The commercial does a great job of this, and here at Pacific Honda we also think it does a great job of pulling San Diego Honda fans on the hunt for a new car. The new Civic Coupe is a terrific option, and is anything but “square.”
