What Gas Should You Use for Honda Cars?

Going to the gas station to fill up is an unconscious activity for most drivers in San Diego, CA. They simply pull up to the pump, unscrew their fuel cap, push the button for the “Regular Unleaded” fuel option and wait for that trademark “Kachunk!” when the tank is full. Occasionally, though, we get questions here at Pacific Honda about what type of fuel to use on Honda cars and SUVs, mostly because someone has had the revelation that Premium gasoline must exist to make cars run better.

The easy answer to this is that there is no advantage to paying any sort of extra money for premium fuel for vehicles that don’t need it. All Honda models are certified and designed to run on regular unleaded gasoline, so spending more than necessary on fuel that has been proven to have no benefit on the longevity of performance of a vehicle is more than a little silly. There flat-out is no need for it.

Of course, we also get questions about whether or not it’s okay to use E85 fuel, an option at several gas stations in California that tends to be quite a bit less expensive than traditional gasoline. As of now, however, Honda engines are not built to use E85 or any other alternative fuel, so avoid filling up your vehicles with those unless you’re interested in an impromptu visit to your Honda service department.
