Of all the accolades that an automaker hopes to see its models win over the course of a year, the Motor Trend Car, SUV and Truck of the Year awards are typically considered among the most prestigious. Knowing that, we here at Pacific Honda are thrilled to pass on the good news that the 2015 Honda CR-V was recently named the Motor Trend 2015 SUV of the Year!
For those that don’t know much about it, the CR-V is the best-selling entry CUV in the history of the segment, and is currently the best-selling SUV in the industry. It’s a crossover, which means seating aplenty, sufficiently versatile cargo space, and top-notch efficiency, all of which make it desirable for a number of consumers, especially those with families looking to avoid the purchase of a minivan.
So what was it that allowed the CR-V to win this year’s award? There a lot of things that the voting panel liked, but in particular it was the drivetrain, which got all kinds of tweaks to make the driving experience more fun, as well as the high MPG numbers that so awesome a drivetrain can elicit. In this case, the updates have resulted in a more efficient, more enjoyable drive, and that alone was enough to earn it pretty serious consideration. Also, while it hasn’t been tested yet, the plan is for the CR-V and all its bountiful safety features to perform better on the challenging IIHS small-overlap crash test in hopes of earning a Top Safety Pick+ designation.
We’re thrilled about all the new updates, but more importantly, we hope San Diego Honda customers are thrilled, too.
