A New Platform and Big Changes For Honda Cars

At Pacific Honda, we're always excited to hear more about what the Honda brand has in the works. Recently, the CEO revealed some big plans for some of our favorite cars. From the development of a new platform to new electrification initiatives, there's a lot to look forward to.

The biggest news might be the development of a new platform. A platform is commonly used to share parts and make building a variety of vehicles easier and more efficient. In some cases, different vehicle types can be built on the same platform. Trucks and SUVs can share a platform, for example. If you look at the current Honda lineup, models like the 2019 Honda CR-V and 2019 Honda Civic are actually based on the same platform despite their size differences.

The new platform, known as Honda Architecture, will be unveiled next year with a 2021 “global” model. The Honda brand considers a variety of vehicles to be global models, including the 2019 Honda Fit and the 2019 Honda HR-V, and all it means is that they're sold in a wide variety of markets. We look forward to seeing what new Honda car gets introduced with this platform.

The Honda brand also has some other plans in the works. First, it plans to offer fewer trim levels on some models. It would lower manufacturing costs and make shopping less overwhelming for car shoppers by eliminating redundant options. The Honda brand is also planning to bring its two-motor hybrid system to the entire lineup by 2025, at least in Europe. Does that mean new green cars for the United States as well? It might.

In the meantime, visit our Honda dealership serving Lemon Grove, CA and find a dependable, efficient vehicle that you'll love today. We'll keep you updated on the latest models and we'll answer any questions you have about the newest features. We hope to see you soon for a test drive!
