The major focus on automobiles these days tends to be on things like technology and safety features, in large part because that’s where a good number of the biggest changes are happening right now in the automotive world.
But let’s not forget what makes the car industry go, literally. It’s the engines, and according to Ward Automotive’s 10 Best Engines list for the 2014 model year, the 3.5-liter V6 engine under the hood of the 2014 Honda Accord is one of the best in the industry.
The 3.5-liter SOHC V6 in the Accord is a pretty special engine on this list for a couple for a reasons, first and foremost because it’s one of only two repeat winners from the 2013 model year. Yes, eight new engines were named this year, which means the powertrain in the Accord V6 has more staying power than we initially realized.
Secondly, there were only three naturally-aspirated engines on the list, and this was obviously one of them, due in large part to the fact that it’s more efficient than most of the turbocharged four-cylinder offerings out there in the auto industry today.
It’s interesting, isn’t it, that for all the love the Accord has gotten since its redesign last year, that the powerful and efficient engine offerings are so often overlooked. San Diego and Mira Mesa Honda Accord drivers are lucky to have so wonderful a drivetrain, and we feel pretty confident that this can make the Ward’s Best Engines list again for the 2015 model year. In the meantime, we’ll enjoy this victory and thank our engineers for putting together one of the best engines in the industry.
